Everybody loves Buck. How can you not? Baseball fans everywhere instantly fell in love with him the minute they watched Ken Burns' documentary. Buck O'Neil was one of the great ambassadors the game has ever known. He was the first black coach in the Major Leagues, and the long-time manager of the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro Leagues. But before all of that, he was also an excellent player in his own right. He's seen here as a member of the 1946-47 Almendares team won the Cuban League championship.
The 1946-47 Felices (Caramelo Deportivo) card of Buck O'Neil is the key card to the set, in spite of there being two Negro League HOFers (Dandrige and Dihigo) in it. Although Buck isn't currently enshrined in Cooperstown, someday the totality of his baseball life will be recognized properly and he'll be inducted like he should have been while he was still alive.
This issue is extremely condition-sensitive. PSA has graded 4 examples of this card, with the highest being a 2. This one is a 1.5 and has great eye appeal, especially for this set.
