Schmelzer's All Nations team was a famous barnstorming team that was, in part, a precursor to the Kansas City Monarchs. They claimed to have players from all countries and ethnicities around the world. Many Negro Leaguers played for the team, including HOFers like Jose Mendez and Cristobal Torriente, and future HOFers like John Donaldson. This postcard was originally sold as being J.L. Wilkinson, who later would later become the owner of the Kansas City Monarchs. It is quite clearly not Wilkinson, but who it is remains a mystery. He looks like he could be Jewish(?) which would fit with the All Nations theme. There is little in the way of roster information and very few All Nations items such as postcards or broadsides still exist. Regardless of who the player is, it's an incredible image of an All Nations player in uniform somewhere around 1915. A rare postcard.

NOTE: 25% of the winning bid for this lot will be donated directly to relief efforts to help the victims of the devastating hurricanes that struck Puerto Rico and The U.S. Virgin Islands.
