1948-49 Empresa Comercial Sport cards are among the rarest of all
Venezuelan baseball card issues. There are only three examples known of
each card. They measure around 2.25" by 2.75" and are on a thicker,
higher quality card stock than most Latin American cards. The backs are
blank. This lot features Negro Leaguer Johnny Ritchey pictured as a
member of the Magallanes team in the Venezuelan League. Ritchey became known as the Jackie Robinson of the Pacific Coast League when he broke the leagues color barrier in 1948 as a member of his home town San Diego Padres.
