Lot Description  

1923-24 Billiken card of HOF Negro Leaguer, Jose Mendez. Graded a 70 (EX+) by SGC. There have been 10 examples of this card graded by SGC. This is the highest graded example. The next highest is a 50. His cards are among the toughest to obtain for collectors trying to get a card of every player in the Hall of Fame. One of the key cards to one of the most popular and important Cuban baseball card sets. Mendez is considered by many to be the greatest pitcher in Cuban baseball history.
