Many collectors believe the 1945-46 Caramelo Deportivo card is HOFer Ray Dandridge's rookie card. It is not. He has two cards in this 1945 Mexican League issue. There are only one or two examples known of each card. This one shows Dandridge sliding into third, and even uses his nickname, "Mamerto." It is much larger than his other card in this set. This one measures about 3" by 4 1/4". His other card measures about 1 7/8" by 2 3/4". The Mexican League was a summer league taking place months before the 1945-46 Cuban season, making this the earliest known card of this HOF Negro Leaguer.
