1910 Punch cards are among the most desirable of all Cuban baseball
cards. Many collectors are unaware that there is a variation of
Punch called "Ramon Carreras." On the bottom of each card, where it
normally says, "Punch" it says "Ramon Carreras" instead. Ramon Carreras was the photographer for the Punch cards. In the images below you can see a group 4 Punch cards, including the only two examples of the Ramon Carreras variation that I'm aware of. These variations are similar to what "La Moda" cards are to Billikens, though significantly more scarce.
Even more scarce is the item in this lot: A 1910 Ramon Carreras cabinet card of Negro Leaguer Rogelio
Valdés, which uses the same image as his Punch card, which I've also
shown an example of. The reverse has advertising for Ramon Carreras'
photography studio and includes an image of the photographer, himself.
The measurements are 4 1/4" by 6 1/2". In theory, these cabinet cards were produced
for the entire set of Punch cards, but this is the only one that has ever
surfaced, and is likely the only surviving example from the set, if there was one.
Rogelio Valdés played in the Cuban and Negro Leagues from 1899 to 1916. His Negro League teams were the Cuban Stars West, Stars of Cuba, All Cubans, and Cuban X Giants. He was inducted into the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946.
