Original Hooks Brothers photograph of José María Fernández, Jr. on the 1949 New York Cubans. Hooks Brothers Photography Studio on Beale Street in Memphis was founded in 1906 by brothers, Robert and Henry Hooks. In the 1940s it was taken over by their sons Charles and Henry Hooks until the end in the 1970s. An institution in the Black community of Memphis, they documented all aspects of life in Memphis. In 1949 they took their cameras out to Martin's Stadium, home of the Memphis Red Sox, and captured an amazing series of images of players on the Memphis Red Sox and visiting New York Cubans. This is an original Type 1 photo. It measures 8" by 10". There is some foxing on the reverse.
